Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, which is located on the right lower side of the abdomen. The most common cause of appendicitis is a blockage or obstruction of fecal matter. If not treated quickly, the appendix can rupture resulting in the spread of infection throughout the abdomen, known as, peritonitis.
